Camshaft position sensor needs cleaning or replacing. Do I have to remove the air intake manifold to gain access or is there a trick to it I'm not seeing?

since you provided no engine size i assume it is a 5.3

MPORTANT: Clean the area around the camshaft position (CMP) sensor before removal in order to prevent debris from entering the engine.

Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)



Remove the engine sight shield, as necessary.
Disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
Remove the CMP sensor bolt.
Remove the CMP sensor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP)



Install the CMP sensor.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the CMP sensor bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft) .

Connect the CMP sensor electrical connector.
Install the engine sight shield, as necessary.
