A knocking /rattle in steering colomn.The steering seams to jam up ,stick when not moving.Shimmy in front end at higher speeds.

This is something you need to have checked asap, being a safety issue.
A visual inspection is required and components to check would be the steering linkages, steering rack, u-joints and suspension components.
