I have a 2002 Ford Expedition 4.6L with automatic 4X4. The gear positioner on the driver side of the transmission housing is leaking. How do I replace the seal?

No. Would I have to remove the pan and dismantle transmission parts in order to remove the shaft so I could use a puller and set on the new seal? If so, any recommendations on how to set the new seal with the shaft still there after I pry the old seal?

you just need a seal driver which sometimes can be a deep socket. i make my own up custom also to fit the job by welding a pipe to a washer of the right size.

another trick is a pipe threaded into a pipe flange.
