i've installed a new rear wheel cylinder, new shoes, and drum. the only way i can get new drum on is to disconnect the emergency brake cable.

the passenger side went on w/ no problems. i was told to loosen the emergency brake cable from within the car. this did not alleviate the problem.

you may have to make adjustment at park brake lever.

by park brake lever, do you mean from inside the car? if so, i replied before your answer that this didn't work.

well i have used vicegrips pliers to grab cable and pull on it or hit on grips with hammer while pulling or just remove cable from vehicle to work on it or replace it. but no i would not expect this to be expensive.
