How did you check fuel pressure and the injectors?

I rent fuel pressure test kit - with engine off and running was 65psi. I don't now if fuel pressure regulator is good - no change when I disconnect vacuume hose. When pressure was on I check each injector for (spray) by two wires + & -.They was working (no leaking).

Are the injectors being pulsed when you try and start the engine? Will it start if yo spray carb cleaner in the intake?

Disconnect the fuel injector harness and measure the resistance of #s 4 and 6. See attached for specification.

I would also check compression and make sure the injectors are being pulsed.

Can you move the individual injectors around? Like put #3 into #4, and #5 into #6, and vice versa. See if the problem follows the injectors. What about plug wire impedance?

If I recall this has a distributor. What does it look like? What about the cap?

There is no plug wire, distributor or cap. This is coil on plug system.

Can you move the COP assemblies around then? To see if maybe they or their wiring is the issue.

Ok. That means it's either the plugs, the connector for the COP assembly, or bad compression in those 2 cylinders.

Measure voltage at each COP assembly with the engine running. I have attached the pertinent schematic. Make sure #4&6 are being triggered properly and powered.

That tells me the problem is in the wiring to the 4&6 coil on cap assemblies. Either to power, ground, or the PCM.

I got some input from here also....Nothing helped much and it ended differently than what was thought

Disregard all of this, if we're not on the same country road

Thought I'd sling it out there, for observation anyway....open for any questions with mine....hope it's simpler than mine!

Pasting

Went thru same deal w/ '03 Ford Escape 3.0 V-6

Repetitive, fast hesitations (stumbles), lasting 1-2 seconds, varied in how far the "sets" were apart, it was more evident climbing a incline, while slowly administering gas....random or none on level ground......Every now and again at idle, but very seldom.

---No codes --- (cleaned 1st, and/ or replaced the following

New Plugs............then "genuine plugs".....Bah-Hum-bug!!!, nothing wrong with the other new ones, I just installed!

Installed the following as recommended

Boots and springs

air filter

MAF

EGR

A new IAC for Sheets & Giggles!

Mega Vacuum leak search several times.

Fought with wife many times over situation, 2+ months!

I really hated taking off the "Plenum" so many times to access the other 3 cylinders

Each part seem to fix it for a day or two....I did not mind replacing the suggested parts, as I am all for "PM" and she's got 100,000 miles on her rig.

The final cure was #3 misfiring (lucked into the correct cylinder) I was gonna swap a new coil pack down the line, till it stopped

#3 was the ticket!

I had tried to get the Technical school to ride me with their portable machine---things did not work out, with their schedule.

I went to a salvage yard to get a used pack ($10) to swap around, then I'd buy a new one if solved the problem.

So happened, the salvage yard guy had a machine, in a stored code, it said #3 had misfired.....My little scanner could not tell me that!

Runs perfect now, with the New $79 Coil Pack!

But the hassle one must go thru!

I'll always stick with my Jeep CJs, You can diagnose them so EZ .....to heck w/ these computer cars!

The Medic

Any of these pics bring back bad memories? They do for me!

Remove the intake manifold, or the plenum cover, to access the 3 plugs, CJ?

ROGER---A DRUNKEN ENGINEER I SUPPOSE DESIGNED IT LIKE THIS. COVER REMOVED IS NOT SHOWN--THEN THERE'S THE PLENUM (3RD PIC, RIGHT SIDE)......THIS IS SO STUPID (IN MOST OTHER MODERN CARS TOO), I COULD IMPROVE THIS LAYOUT, AND MAKE ALL OF THE PLUGS AND COILS EZily ACCESSIBLE FOR THE COMMON IDIOT (LIKE ME)

IT'S NOT "HARD", IT'S TIME CONSUMING!

I GET SCARED THAT THE PLASTIC IS GONNA BREAK OR CRUMBLE, OR THE METAL FEMALE INSERTS WILL BREAK OUT

ON MY CJ5, I CAN HAVE 6 PLUGS OUT IN LESS THAN 3 MINUTES (MAYBE 2 MIN!)

FIND A BAD COIL??? YEAH, THAT'S EZ, THERE'S ONLY ONE!

BREAK SOMETHING? FOR THE MOST PART IT'S CAST IRON/ ALUMINUM/ OR STEEL.

THIS PUPPY IS ALREADY 36 YEARS OLD--IT WILL STILL OUTLAST THE WIFE'S ESCAPE BY MANY MORE YEARS!

PERSONALLY--I THINK HE HAS A COIL PROBLEM OR A BOOT (JUMPING FIRE)....FROM WHAT I READ, A USED ONE HAS NOT BEEN USED TO TEST/ OR A NEW ONE......BUT I'M NOT THERE!

MIGHT NOT HURT TO CHECK CONNECTIONS AND MAYBE A LITTLE DIELECTRIC GREASE ON 'EM.

THE MEDIC

EVEN WITH THE HORNS TAKING UP ROOM, THE JEEP IS STILL 90% MORE AND QUICKLY ACCESSIBLE THAN THE ESCAPE.

He's swapped out with known goods. 4&6 are the problems and he's moved 3 to 4 and vice versa and 5 to 6 and vice versa. Problem stays on 4&6. It HAS to be wiring.

I remember doing a tune-up on a 57 Chevy when I was like 8 years old. I sat on the INNER fender well to reach the plugs and wires.

I WAS LOOKING IN MITCHELL I FOR ANYTHING THAT MIGHT HELP

I SORTA GOT CONFUSED MYSELF---WHEN I ACCIDENTALLY STOPPED ON A DIAGRAM.

THERE WERE OTHER ENGINES, A 3.3L (VIN T) AND A 3.0L 6 CYLINDER IN A "VILLAGER", THE CYLINDERS IN IT ARE SORTA NUMBERED BACK AND FORTH, BACK AND FORTH ACROSS THE BANKS.

IT THREW ME FOR A LOOP FOR A SECOND!!!!

I'M GONNA SEND A PIC---IS THIS HOW YOU ARE READING THE CYLINDERS? ("ALL OTHERS")

1....2....3 ARE AGAINST THE FIREWALL

4....5....6 ARE AGAINST THE RADIATOR

..........MAYBE YOU HAVE IT CONFUSED WITH THE CORRECT ORDER TOO! MAYBE YOU HAVE BEEN MESSING WITH THE WRONG COIL PACKS! (AFTER GOING THRU ALL OF THIS, I'M GETTING CONFUSED TOO!)

JUST LOOKING AT THAT---LOOKS LIKE #4 WOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONLY ONE THAT COULD BE CONFUSED

THE CORRECT ORDER FOR THE ESCAPE IS IN MY PIC IF IT IS LEGIBLE WHEN I POST IT. I THIS DON'T COME THRU WELL, LET ME KNOW, I WILL SEND YOU A MESSAGE, YOU CAN LEAVE ME YOUR EMAIL IN THERE (CLICK ON YOUR NAME AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE, SORTA LOOK TO THE LEFT FOR MESSAGE CENTER, YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS WILL BE SAFE W/ ME IN MESSAGES---DON'T BLURT IT OUT IN OPEN FORUM! LET ME KNOW, I'LL INITIATE A MESSAGE)

IT'S HARD TO ENLARGE SOME OF THE STUFF THAT WE POST, WITHOUT IT BLURRING. EMAIL TO EMAIL, IT SHOULD BE AS CLEAR AS I SEE IT IN MY DOWNLOADS
