2002 Ford Escape p0301

I am getting a code p0301. My car started running rough about 3 days ago and the idle is up and down. The engine shakes at low idle. I am thinking it is egr valve. There is also a smell coming from it after I turn off the engine. Any thoughts?

Hello,

Ok, P0301 indicates a misfire in the #1 Cylinder. And since your vehicle has a coil for each cylinder the first thing I would do is take the coil from the #1 cylinder and move it to another cylinder. Then read codes if misfire moves to that cylinder then replace coil.

Also when was last tune-up?

What kind of smell?
