My car is stopping

I have a 2002 ford escape and today I started driving and it stopped but it was sill on I just couldnt hear anything. And no lights have come on, on my dashboard indicating that something is wrong. My steering wheel also locks up so that I cant move it at all. I am not sure whats going on with it.
