cv axle replacement?

I'm trying to take out the CV axle and it's not coming out I was told that it had a ring inside the axle that I would have to take off the pumpkin to take the ring out can you help me out

I haven't worked on an 02 for some time. However, if I recall, I used a slide hammer to remove the axle. Take a look at the pics I attached and let me know if this helps. Check out the images (below). Let us know if you need anything else.
