Sorry I don't know which gauges it is a truck I can get a very good deal on a purchase. The seller said he had it checked and was told it was the computer I was curious about 2002 ram quad cab 4x4 for $1500. Just can't put a lot of money in it.

That is very true and he is the seller! It has 214000 miles. I'm also looking at a 99 dodge ram 5.9 4x4 was told the speedometer and odometer quit working and the brake light and the abs light is on he was told it was sensors. Any ideas on that?

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 4x4. It is an automatic with the manual transfer case in the floor. I was driving down the interstate yesterday. When I pushed on the gas to accelerate around a semi I heard a loud pop and now the truck won't drive. The drive shaft is fine. It still goes into gear but it will not move in any gear. If I push on the gas it just Revs up. I can still push the truck if I put it in nuetral. Any idea what it is?

Bring it in and have the transfer case and transmission checked out thoroughly might want to have it pressure tested to find out more what's going on.

That would make sense being a sensor so the 5.9L is a diesel? Also how many miles on that one?

Can not figure out why my truck is back firing. It only back fires when you go down big hills when driving on the road. As soon as you get to the top of the hill and start going down if you don't either kept the gas on just barely or the brake barely on all the way down the hill then it will start sputtering from the exhaust before the loud back fire. We thought it was bad gas and put treatments in it. We also changed the plugs, distributor cap, rotary button and we still are getting the sputtering and back fires. We only have the one vehicle and can't put it in the shop to find out so can you help with some recommendations so we could fix it on our own.

Is this the original motor? If it is, the cause could be several things such as a worn timing chain, burnt valves, vacuum leaks which are very common...

2007 hemi pick up. I keep having a back fire. One tech said it's a miss fire on cylinder 6&7. I changed all 16 plugs. Still problem. Changed coils on 6,7&8. Changed the cam or crank sensor (the one right below the alternator). Still having problems. No codes are being thrown on the computer. Help please

backfire thru exhaust confirms misfire. so how did old plugs look? especially 6-7. and does your motor have MDS?

you could try switching injectors on 6-7 with nextdoor cylinders and see if problem moves with them?

The old plugs looked good. Don't know what MDS means. Do injectors get bad or do the clog up.

I have a 1994 dodge ram 1500 with a 318 in it. i replaced the plugs, wires, coil and yesterday i replace the cap and rotor. when I'm driving in normal traffic it runs good, but when i take it on the high way or go over 50 mph it begins to spit, sputter and then backfire. before replace the part above it would only spit and sputter at high speed. i checked the fuel pump and it checks at 40psi. now i wondering what could be causing this?

I'd start by having the exhaust back pressure tested to see if the catalytic converter is restricted. You might get a clue by connecting a vacuum gauge and clipping it under the windshield wiper arm so you can watch while driving. Vacuum will drop slowly at a steady highway speed if the converter is plugged. You should get similar results while holding the throttle partially open while and standing still in neutral. Another clue is the exhaust will sound like more of a hiss than the normal "putt-putt".

MDS is gas saving 4cyl operation when cruisin. injectors do both.

i would say MDS takes this diagnosis beyond do it yourself. VVT adds extra complications to any attemp to guess at fix. you will have to take it in to get diagnosed with the right equipment and procedures.

2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9l, the problem is that it wont start, it was running "fine" i got gas at a station i normally dont but the price was right, ever since then it has backfired several times, tonight i was sitting at a train stop and when the gates lifted i took off normal and it started sputtering and backfiring about half way over the tracks, then it died and wont start again... at first it sounded like it was going to start and then , after i pushed it off the road more, it doesnt even try to start... im thinking maybe distributor but im not sure how to check for spark and all that, i dont know much about cars but i am mechanically inclined...

2 possibilities in mind, one would be the distributor cap has carbon tracks, from your description of the backfire.

the other is a fuel pump failure. you need a pressure gauge to verify that.

well i think i will check the spark in the morning and see if it is getting any, if not i will assume the distributor is bad... i can hear the fuel pump coming on and i pressed the pin in the connection on the fuel rail and it sprayed out... dont know if that means anything im assuming it has to be a certain pressure coming out...

you are correct. just a spray is not good enough.

pull the wire off the coil tower and crank the motor. you should hear a snapping noise from the spark going down the side of the coil.

ok so i took it to a guy and he hooked it up to his computer scanner, he says it said the main computer (ECM/ECU?) is bad, does that sound right or possible, btw i pulled the wire from the coil tower to the distributor and got spark, so i put that back and pulled 3 plug wires and got no spark, pulled the wire off the coil side and got nothing...

Just wondering where the start. When i accelerate at more than half throttle the engine backfires, it is not herd at less than half. seems to happen right when i accelerate but goes away when the RPM get high. have not noticed it after running down the road and 70 then going up a hill and down shifting.
tested fuel psi and was 60-61psi at an idle no check engine light on. the colder the engine it happens more. warmer outside air seems to make a difference, warmer backfires less.

have found the problem it was the spark plugs i am guessing that they had not ever been changed 125000mi is a bit long. spec was 30 and they measured 60 now is running good.

Hi:
Is the check engine light on? First, I recommend having the computer scanned for codes. Most nationally recognized parts stores will do it for free. If nothing is found, have the fuel pump pressure checked.

Let me know what you find.
