bought a 2002 dakota slt v8 4x4 quad cab from a dealer with 138,000 miles on it....test drove great...drove it less than 500 miles...on the highway at 65mph transmission downshifted to 2nd gear...slowed down and shifted back to the D position and drove on...35 miles later had a pronounced clicking noise...like something grabbing. Went to drive it to mechanics next day and went in reverse, put in drive and would not engage...just spin...shifted fine just turning...towed to mechanic...he found no metal shavings in pan and fluid in great shape....is now at the Dodge dealer......we are fighting the purchase of vehicle....what could of happened to this vehicle?

This may be a case of Caveat emptor... Latin, Let the buyer beware.] A warning that notifies a buyer that the goods he or she is buying are "as is," or subject to all defects.

When a sale is subject to this warning the purchaser assumes the risk that the product might be either defective or unsuitable to his or her needs.

Check this site it will explain it all.
