Shorted fan relay. To address whiny customer complaints that they could hear the fan run, it is now controlled by a computer module instead of a common sense relay. The older ten-dollar relay rarely caused a problem but the electronic module that varies the fan speed up and down as needed is a typical unreliable computer. It lives just to the left of the radiator about half way down and is held on with two bolts.

These modules are a little more reliable than the first versions from the mid to late 1990s. There's a small locating pin on the back side. Be sure to mount it correctly with that pin in its hole. It has to sit flat on the body to dissipate heat, otherwise it will overheat and short.
