idle jumps up on its own on occasion

are any fault lights on? it maybe a sensor has gone bad.take it to any parts stores and they can check to see if any codes are causing your problem.

Thank you for your quick reply, no dash warnings, but after a little more research it may have something to do with the torque converter, in my original question revs is a better description than idles high. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks

no codes will make it hard to track down.it maybe a faulty throttle position sensor causing it.but u will need a scanner to monitor the TPS sensor.i would like to know what the rpms go to when the motor is reving.

It's my daughters car I asked her about it and she said 6, that's all I have to work with

it is not safe to operate any car at 6000 rpm. have the car checked to see what is wrong. you will have to pay check out time. it is one half hour labor at most shops but you will get a answer to what the problem is then i can help you fix it.OK
