i heard a grinding sound coming from the drivers side front tire, while turning the wheel towards the right? When the wheel was turned towards the left, there was no sound?

Probably a bad hub bearing.

Make sure the backing plat isn't making contact.

no the backing plate (which i assume hangs down behind the tire?) is not making contact. So a bad hub bearing? Is that repairable, or does it need replacement? Any idea of the cost for something like that?

No, the backing plate doesn't hang down. It's a metal shield behind the rotor and yes, a bad bearing would have to be replaced.

We also had this problem with my 2002 Suburban, it turned out to be my rotors, we replaced both sides.

Again I apologize for the boo boo, If you jack your vehicle up and use a crowbar under the tire to see if there is movement, IF there is it's the wheel bearing. That's how we tested ours. Hope this helps.
