transfer case is making a loud grinding noise and is kicking it between gears. Also is not locking my 4 wheel drive in but makes the noise like it is.

Sounds like a internal gear problem in the transfer case. The grinding noise and it kicking between gears could mean a broken tooth in the transfer case. Remove the actuator and check it for operation
