I'm having problems with what I think to be the clutch plate giving out but I'm not sure.

Whenever I press the gas pedal on my automatic chevy malibu, I have to press and release several times in order for the car to get up to speed. My car also can't go past 60 mph. I'm assuming it's the clutch plate but I'm not sure. How can I fix my car? My car is a v6 2002 chevy.

Please help.

Sincerely,

Damaris

So are you saying you have let up on the gas for it to shift to the next gear up?

First check trans. fluid level with engine running and in park, if OK then you have a clutch/band/pressure problem and I would go to trans shop for repair, or get a good used trans.

Also if you have to let up on the gas for it to shift to the next gear higher you could have a plugged cat.

Thanks guys. Yes, I'm going to get my car checked out next week. I do believe that I might have a plugged cat. However, I'm also thinking that maybe I do have what mmprince4000 mentioned. Thank you for your awesome suggestions guys. Now I just have to worry about the price. haha
