HELLO BOB & KEN
I have a fast question. My sister has a 2002 BMW 325i. I went to visit here and after we parked the car , the lights flashed when we put the key in. Car would not start=dead battery. Triple AAA came and replaced the bad battery with a new one for free.
Four days later, she took me to the airport~while driving, the battery light came on the dashboard. The BMW dealer said she needed an alternator, and are they are going to replace the alternator, as the car made it to the Dealer.
Now they are saying ONE CELL is dead in her new battery due to the BAD alternator. The dealer wants $300 for a new battery. Can she drive a mile or two (from dealer) and have triple AAA replace the battery again for free without damaging the new alternator? I doubt triple AAA is going to come to the dealer! Thanks~just wondering as triple AAA will give her a free battery since its under warranty.
please get back to me asap..much appreciated!

First thing is I don't think a failed alternator would cause a new battery to have a dead cell. The battery was probably bad.

As long as the battery can hold some charge and you can get the vehicle started, it is not a problem to drive it for a few miles.
