Growling noise coming from front end when I steer right sound goes away when I steer left sounds sounds the same. I thought it was the wheel bearings what other things could be making the growl noise besides cv joints?

No unless its really bad you wont feel any play in it.Put the front wheels off the ground on jack stands then put the car in neutral then put one hand on the coil spring and use the other hand to spin the wheel as fast as you can.If you have a bad bearing you should be able to feel the bad bearing in the coil spring.Check both sides and compare them to each other.Let me know you find.
