was driving when all of the sudden my power steering went out - then my battery light went on and then my temp guage shot up to hot. Does the same belt drive my power steering and water pump?

The first thing i would do is check the belt the belt tenisor could have failed or the belt could have broken.

What is a belt tenisor? If the belt did break would that cause the power steering to fail and the temp to rise and put the battery light on?

A belt tenisor is what keeps the belt tight.If the belt fails you can loose the alternator and power steering.What engine do you have?
