I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Supercharged and my AC isnt getting cool. My compressor use to make a loud noise when the air was turned on but after I put freon in it, it stopped but it still makes a little sound but it still isnt getting cool. what to do?

My 1999 Grand Prix GT Sedan is making a intermiten grinding noise when started. The noise seems to be pully on the air compressor. I have lubed and it seems to help but the noise comes back after a few miles. The noise is getting worse and louder?

You can't lube a pulley. All you can do that way is cause more problems. Use a spray bottle of water to determine if it's the belt or the pulley. If it's the pulley, then the only solution is to replace it and you're looking at a whole compressor there.

If it is the Idler or the Tensioner Pulley you will need to replace it. Check out link below and find the Belt Diagram that matches your vehicle to locate the pulleys....

Just wanted to know how much oil is supposed to be in a a/c compressor. I have read on a bunch of different forums that say to pour out the old oil and measure it but my old compressor got knocked over and most of the oil that was in it poured out onto my garage floor. Also what type of oil is it just want to be sure and get the right stuff.

What else was changed beside the compressor?
Was any flushing done?

No flushing was done yet but The condenser and the accumulator will also be changed on it.

In that situation I would put 4 ounces in the compressor and 2 more during charging through the low side port using vacuum,

I use PAG46 in those.

Be sure to rotate the compressor about 10 times before starting so it doesn't lock on the oil.

Ok last question I heard that when installing the new condenser you should put a small amount of the PAG oil in it. Is this a required thing to do?

No, some will end up there anyway.

I have a 1996 pontiac grand prix. The air condiotining isn't working. When it's truned on I can see that the compressor isn't engaged. I've tried to add freon with a can of r134 but it's not taking any of the freon in. I'm using one of those snap on hoses you get at an auto parts store. The gage shows that there is no pressure in the system. Why won't it take any of the freon into the system?

if there is no pressure in system. that means you have a leak and will only waste the freon. the reason it will not take from the can is because there is no vacum to suck out of the can. or you may have simply not screwed fitting down to puncture can.

is the car on and a/c running when adding the freon? Are you adding the freon to the "lo-side"?

Just because the gauge doesn't show pressure, doesn't mean there isn't any. It is possible for the low pressure refill valve to stick or plug. If you are familiar with a/c system, install a separate gauge on the low side of a/c system. If you get no reading, STOP. The next safest thing is to take you vehicle to a qualified shop to verify your reading. If you are not that familiar with a/c systems, take your vehicle there first.
