fuel injector o-ring replacement

I have replaced the lower intake manifold gasket on my 2001 Olds Silhouette 3.4L V6. I am trying to remove the injectors from the rail to replace the upper gaskets on the injectors. I am not having much luck and am not real certain how they remove. I have released the metal clip on one of them that appeared to hold it in place but the injector does not want to come out. I am afraid to put to much pressure on the injector. Any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Why did you replace the lower intake manifold gasket? What is the problem that you are trying to fix?

The intake manifold gaskets on these 3.4 L engines are infamous about developing leaky intake gaskets around the water ports. That is why I was replacing the gaskets. While the fuel rail was removed I wanted to replace the injector o-rings as preventative maintenance as I am planning on keeping the vehicle for a couple more years. This engine has 158K miles on it an the whole top end will have new gaskets when the job is complete.

Once you undo the fastening clips you should be able to pull them right out. It's easier said than done, you can twist them too but make sure you only pull them straight. I am not very familiar with that engine but I know the GM 3.8 engine is also famous for the upper intake to crack and leak coolant into the intake, maybe look into a modified upper plenum while you have it apart. Dorman might make it. Good Luck!
