Why does my speedometer go haywire and the vehicle downshifts on its own and constantly jerks

Might be a problem with vehicle speed sensor? Have the trouble codes checked. Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free. You can check codes youyrself, if you have an olbd2 code reader.
