2001 Oldsmobile Bravada parking brake stuck on

Please be more specific. The release handle is sticking? The handle moves normally but the pedal doesn't come back up? The pedal comes back up like normal, but the brakes are dragging? Do you have rear disc or drum brakes?

When I first pushed the pedal for the emergency brakes it engaged and when I went to pull the release lever the pedal didn't come back up in its regular position I pulled and pulled several times and it is still in the engaged position as I type

There's two common causes for the pedal to not return. One is a stretched parking brake cable. That is more common when the driver uses the parking brake often. When it is used very seldom, it's much more likely one of the rear cables is rusted and sticking. That will keep that brake applied too. The only proper fix for that is to replace the sticking cable. Lubricating them rarely solves the problem. You're in luck with disc brakes in the rear. You can easily see where the cable attaches to a lever on the side of the caliper. If the cable isn't rusted solid, you can use a large channel lock pliers to pull rearward on the lever and tug the cable back to the released position. You'll need to do that while a helper is holding the parking brake release handle in the release position.
