How to replace 2001 Oldsmobile Alero Serpentine Belt Tensioner?

A screeching noise now occurs upon ignition, after I replace the Serpentine belt.

Tug on the belt to rotate the spring-loaded tensioner pulley, then watch if it sticks there or springs back smoothly. If it sticks, it won't put enough tension on the belt.

If the squealing was there before you replaced the belt, check for pulley misalignment, especially that tensioner pulley. If the belt is off-center by even 1/8" it will cause a squeal because the belt is sliding across the pulley as it goes around it.
