when you add fuel, the sender sends a signal to the trip computer to update your mileage.

when i filled the tank it read 35 miles is there a way to reset the computer

That is to mean no resetting is required. The meter cluster control unit would do the calculation for you.

There is a way to reset the estimated miles to empty, and the question was asking for the specific way to do that. If you dont know how, simply dont answer with inaccurate information.
