the anti theft system shut the radio off when we replaced the battery and the radio needs a certain code to turn the radio back on.

I had to put my original stereo back into my mirage and it asked for a code as well. I was able to go to my nearest mitsubishi dealer with the stereos model number and they gave me the CODE to enter myself. They can do it for you but at my location they charge and it was free to do it myself. So call or drop by your nearest dealer and they can help you with this!
