rough idle and caused converters to pluged up on a 2001 mazda tribut 3.0L and cylinder 4 and 6 do not change the running of the engine if unhooked but you unhook cyl 5 the engine dies. The plugs are new and the converters and oxygen sensors have been replaced

Cylinder 4 and 6 are not firing. Get a compression test done.
Try swapping the fuel injector with cylinder 5 and see if problem migrates.

Misfiring would result in the catalytic converter glowing red hot and prolonged driving under such conditions would damage it.
