My car makes a whining sound when I press the gas pedal driving. It does not make the sound when in park reving the engine. I usually notice it when I accelerate through 2nd and 3rd gear. I had a mechanic replace the filter and change the transmission fluid. He noticed a fair amount of metal shavings along with burnt transmission fluid and recommended I change the fluid again in 3-4 months. When I drove the car home the sound was still there. Do you think the sound is something that will take time to go away? I experience no shifting or other transmission issues.

Sounds like a bad bearing in the transmission I really doubt the noise will just fix itself.

The noise is why I changed the fluid and filter hoping it would resolve it. The only fix for a bad bearing is replacing or rebuilding the transmission right?

Yeah when a bearing fails you replace it and any other parts in the transmission that failed.

If its only in gear while giving it gas it has to be somewhere in the power train. Without Hearing it cant say for sure.I would have a transmission shop listen to it.

I just took it to a shop and they advised it was a sound coming from the rack and pinion- the power steering pump is going out and not pumping enough fluid to the rack and pinion when accelerating. I appreciate your advice- I'm sure if I were better at describing the facts and the sound you would have come to the same conclusion. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me!
