M & S & D flashing also srs light on

Discovery V8 petrol auto ,The problem is when i start the car all the lights go our other than srs and seatbelt light flashes , when i start to drive it pulls off in first and shifts from first to forth and stays there and thats when the m&s&d lights start fleshing , even when i stop it will stay in 4th , i can select reverse no problem and if i turn off the engine and restart the light s will go out but as soon as the box shifts from first to 4th the lights are back on again . any idas on what to check would be a great help .
