can overheating be caused by the engin management light that keeps comming on , on my kia carnival 2.5 v6 2001 madel

It should be the other way round. The overheating is turning the CEL on due to some fault detected. Get a free scan done at Autozone and post the trouble code here so we can understand what is wrong.
