My 2001 jeep cherokee had a cam bearing slip and there is an over-sized bore in the block causing low oil pressure when driving an almost no pressure when idle. There is some tapping every now and then but that goes away if you give the engine enough juice to get the oil flowing. The repair calls for a new short block and I have no problem going through with this however, I dont have the money right now since I am in school and I don't want to get rid of this car so I am going to run the engine until it goes completely. I was hoping for a short term fix that might boost the oil pressure. Right now I have 10w30....would moving up to a 20w50 help? Is there something I can run through the block to seal up the pressure loss? Thank you.
