My truck needs a new harmonic balancer and I am considering doing the job myself. I want to ask first of all what, if anything, I could screw up as far as the crank, timing, etc... by attempting this myself? Secondly, are there any tricks or common issues with this job I would benefit to be made aware of? Thank you for your time.

Pretty straight forward remove the belt the harmonic balancer pulley bolts.I would also rent a harmonic balancer puller auto zone rents those. Do you have a impact gun?

I have access to a wide assortment of tools, including an impact, at the hobby shop on base, as I remain on active orders until November 5th. But I am not risking the timing or other vital internal operations by attempting this for the first time?

No your not the only real timing so to speak is the key way in the crank shaft.Just make sure the key is still in place and lined up when reinstalling the new balancer.

Form 2.8 to 1.5 hours in the book for a shop depending on the car here is a video of the job being done so you can see how to do it on a similar car, the process is the same.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.
