There is a loud rumble in the exhaust when I start the car ('01 Taurus SEL 130k). Then, while running, it sounds like it has aftermarket exhaust instaled to make it rumble and sound louder. Acceleration seems to lag a bit, but only a small amount. Otherwise it runs fine, just had an oil change, no leaks under or around car. Any ideas what may be causing this? Thanks.

So is the rumbling noise coming from the muffler area?Or in the engine compartment?

Thank you for the response.
The rumble comes from the muffler area - loud growl when the engine starts and then a rumble while I drive/accelerate.

So is your muffler all rotted out?Or blown out that is the most likely cause.

Thanks - I will check for rot after I get out of work.
Would you happen to know how much I can expect to pay to fix this?

Say 60?To put it on?That could be on the low side then depending what kind of muffler you want to install the mufflers are 56 and up at auto zone.If the muffler strap is rotted out it will be more for parts.
