2001 Ford Ranger Seized engine

I have a ford ranger 2001 with a 3.0 ltr engine while driving truck it blew a spark plug from cylinder so figure e is garbage. I bought and installed same engine it started but when put into gear lost all power,and backfired as I tried to accelerate brought engine back to where it was bought they said a cylinder had no compression. Bought another engine,out of same exact truck, I heard it run and was strong engine! I then installed engine (again!!) started truck ran good,put it into gear and the same thing it lost all power and backfired then made a loud screech and died. Took plugs out and cannot turn crank like engine is seized. Thinking that maybe my problem is the transmission? Maybe torque converter wasn't in gauged completely?? But cannot turn crank in order to remove torque converter nuts . Hopefully someone can help me ??

I don't know why you scrapped the original engine in the first place. They make heli-coil repair kits to fix those that can be done right in the vehicle in less than an hour.

You may have to drop the pan to see if the engine is OK. If the trans is seized you may have to just remove the trans, leaving the converter on the engine.

I know that the first motor was bad was blowing white smoke and head was cracked finding parts for this truck is nearly impossible because only this year engine can be used without changing a bunch of stuff. Also only way to drop the oil pan is to pull the engine so then I'll know if it's seized without pulling the pan . So if the tranny is locked up it will stop the engine from turning over??

No, you don't have to remove the engine to drop the pan but you do have to lower the axle so it's still a lot of work.

It's not impossible for the trans to lock things up but I've never seen it happen.
