Last night I made a sharp right turn and what seemed to be my front right tire started thumping as though it had a ball in the tire. Nothing else occurred that evening. This morning I drove my fiance to work and the thumping sound was a bit more frequent. By the time I arrived home the sound has become more of a rubbing sound and gets loud when I shift gears and hit bumps. Naturally, this all happens the day I'm moving cross country.

Time for an inspection at a tire and alignment shop. Besides a broken belt in a tire, (which doesn't exactly fit the symptoms), they'll check for a broken or worn engine mount that might let a pulley rub on a plastic shield. They have a lot of other tricks to make the problem occur so they can search for the source.
