2001 Ford Explorer 4WD problem

no diagrams we can send as it is to big. check fuses and relays first then see if motor on tcase is getting power in low range and working. then get it scanned as it can be one of the modules bad. autoparts may be able to scan this.

You mentioned relays? I'm not sure there are any. Even though when I turn the switch it sounds like there are relays clicking before the engagement. Does it show in the diagram there are relays? I saw a diagram for a 2002 Explorer that didn't have any, but that diagram isn't for an 01 explorer. The 4WD LOW is slow at times or sometimes don't engage.

the relays power up the module and that is about it there is a transistorized one but from what you are saying now it may be the shift motor isn't any good or is weak that is why I said to see if it gets power when button is pushed to 4lo

Your telling me to test when I don't know what to test. So in reality, I won't know what to test without that diagram you have. Could you send it anyway regardless of how big it is? I know the location of most components but don't know what is power and ground without the diagram.

get it scanned first if no codes show then it is probably the motor that isn't shifting or maybe a tcase problem. the shifter motor has two wires going to it yellow and orange. it should get power for one range and the other wire for the other range. also check your linkage where it hooks up if it feels like it's binding then it's an internal problem. make sure to get it scanned though. also check th ground that is shown in pic.

The yellow and orange wires for the motor, what voltage should it be at, 5volts since it being a 5 volt reference? Do you test the both yellow and orange wires at the same time?

the yellow and orange wire will move direction one way and then the other so proble one when switching and the other when switching back. sorry forgot the pic check both grounds in pic.

also get it scanned see if any codes are coming up as well

Thanks for the diagram but it's not the right one. The entire T-Case motor assembly for the one I'm dealing with only has 7 wires. 2 wires are for the motor and the other 5 wires I don't know much about until having the correct diagram. This is for an 01 Ford Explorer Sport 4WD with a Borg Warner 1354 T-Case.

I recently have pulled the entire shift motor out of the Explorer. The shift shaft I moved works in all directions as it should, so I see nothing wrong internally.

Although I'm confused, the front drive shaft moves at all times! Even in 2WD it still moves! Is that the way it's designed? I wouldn't see how this could work without there being a front hub actuator solenoid which this is not equipped with one.

the front axles will turn and the t cae engages the axle when needed. the diagram I sent was correct your best bet is to have alocal pro look at this. I have no further suggestions.
