2001 Dodge Durango noise from under the hood

hello, i have a dodge that sounds like an exhaust is coming from under my hood. As soon you touch the gas you will hear "clack clack clack" similar to a bad exhaust or straight pipe. any idea of what this could be? When i looked under the hood i noticed that a small amount of exhaust or smoke came from the drivers side when i had my friend hit the gas.

It sounds like you have a bad exhaust manifold gasket. Usually, they will make a ticking sound.

also, will this make the car stop running tomorrow if i drive it to work and go to the mechanic on saturday? i just want to make sure its good enough to drive and not crazy dangerous.

The only concern with an exhaust leak is fumes. Just make sure to leave your window cracked open. As far as the car stopping, no, that isn't a concern. It should run fine.

As far as replacing the parts, if your vehicle has the 4.7L V8 engine, which most do, these are the hours required to repair.

Left side, 2.0 hours Right side 3.4 hours. Take that times the labor rate in your area to get an idea on labor. As far as the parts, most likely the bolts will need replaced along with the exhaust manifold gaskets. Parts should be under a hundred dollars.

My only concern is this. Based on the present condition of the exhaust manifold bolts, there could be problems removing them. Sometimes the will break. The result is a labor intensive job of trying to remove them.
