2001 Cadillac Deville reverse lights

Reverse lights do not activate when putting gear shift into reverse. Replaced bulbs with new ones. Thinking it may be a ground issue because the car can be in park with the engine off and the reverse lights will be on. Get into the car to turn on and try reverse lights and nothing happens. Need help with this mystery! Thank you for your attention.
