Why has my onboard computer screen gone blank and the navigation cd (dvd) won't eject.

My 2001 BMW 740iL has been a super vehicle for the last 2 years. But out of nowhere the onboard computer screen has gone blank, plus I am unable to eject the CD cartridge from the CD player in the trunk. The fuses appear to be OK. The radio does work and I can change stations from both the steering wheel and console. Thanks.

you could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and reconnecting.

I tried disconnecting the battery, but still the same condition exists. Also, I didn't mention that the radio cuts out and I have to turn it off then back on to get it to work. But then it cuts out again after a few minutes.

Was the CD a burned disc? There are several models or levels of equipment. Send the last 7 of the VIN so I can ID the car

Last 7 numbers of my VIN is DP23207. Yes, I do have burned cd discs in the cartridge, but they have worked OK for the last year. Any idea on how to eject the navigation dvd and cd cartridge while the onboard navigation is acting up? I press the buttons in the trunk compartment but no ejection occurs. I rechecked the fuses today and they are good. Thanks.

The early cars had primitive nav units that can be upgraded for about $800. The CD player is Panasonic and is also primitive. They are known for eating discs, call John at AUTOBAHN (619)444-2290 he can steer you to the place to get the repairs/upgrades

John at AUTOBAHN referred me to Chris at German Audio Tech (562-743-5207) who has an eBay store (germanaudiotech). John did not have the unit I need, but Chris does. According to him my best bet is to upgrade to the MK4 from the MK2 that I believe I have (Philips 65.90-6 908 309). The CD version MK3 is $495; the DVD version MK4 is $675, but apparently the reliability is best with the MK4.
