Hard to know what he did, without a confession? Lol!

Any clue what could have been monkeyed with?

I can maybe narrow down what fuses to look at, or possibly other stuff.

There are a lot of diagrams and the information you provided does not narrow down which one to look at (lots of Beetle engines and sub-models shown in "Prodemand").

The quickest and most accurate way for me to find the correct diagrams is if you will Post your VIN (vehicle Identification number) on your next response (found on the car and probably your insurance card if it is handier).
