brought a 2000 model volvo v70 xc , it had its timing belt changed at 157000 kms and has now done 158000kms but there is a major oil leak what could the problem be

You would need to have it inspected to see where the leak is actually coming from? It could be the front or rear cam seals, the cvvt hub, the crank seal, the rear main seal, the turbo return feed pipe seals, the cam cover? I can not really tell without actually looking at the vehicle so take it in to a shop for proper inspection.
