How is it when park and idling? Does the engine still rev up pretty high? If that is the case and spark plugs are fouled out with raw fuel I would suspect a faulty ECT sensor. If the sensor gives a faulty reading saying the engine is cold, the ecm will cause the idle to raise high to try to get the engine to warm up. Let us know what you find.

IF YOU START THE CAR AFTER it has sat for awhile it will start and idle fine and if the push and let off of the gas pedal it will rev and drop back to an idle but then when you pull out start to reach 45mph it starts acting like a mix between the thorotle being stuck and the crusie control is stuck on if you try to put in neutral engine revs

What happens when you shut the car off when that happens and you try to start it up right away? Do you have a hard time starting it back up? and if it does start up does it start up with a high idle? That is what I am trying to to figure out? What happens at that moment? If at that moment it acts up and you shut it off and try to start it up but only cranks and cranks without starting, remove the spark plugs and see if they are fouled out with gas. If they are then the ECT sensor is giving a faulty reading of it having a cold engine so the ECM is dumping a bunch of fuel to race the engine up? So let us now what you find WHEN IT IS ACTING UP PLEASE.

Did you remove the spark plugs and inspect then to see if they were covered in fuel?

My brother's baby came into this world yesterday they had a girl Avory Marie Ball, She was 5 wks early a little scary. but I tried to find a ECT sensor fo a volvo S40 it say they the S40 does not have them But tonight I am going to try to get it home then i will pull the plugs . Is it posilbe for a person to unhook or disable the check engine light. because it never came on or nothing and we just had it out with the dealer we bought the car from about the check engine light being on all the time he filled out on me when they said to bring it back if anything goes wrong and this battle has been going on since 4/30/11and how can I check and see if the light has been disabled

Whoever told you that knows nothing then? The engine coolant temperature sensor is located on the thermostat housing. And to check the engine light, turn the key on. The light should come on. When you start it up after a few seconds it should shut off on its own. If the light is not coming on then the bulb either burnt out or they removed it?

Oh OK I know what you are talking about I'm sorry and the Check engine light does not come on when you turn the key to the on or start position and it did before the last battle with the guy we bought it from. Thank you for being patient with a technical ***** I liked the good days if you had a couple wrenches, pilers ,some electrical tape, a couple fuses, and 2 screw divers You could fix almost anything

Yes and you should see this newer cars, even more complicated? It is getting harder LOL. But let me know what you find? Have the vehicle scanned for trouble codes? You may have one for a faulty ECT sensor? Maybe even a thermostat code? But have it checked out and let me know how it goes?
