2000 Volkswagen Golf 2 second cut outs when drivin

Sounds like a bad electrical connection, and the car vibration is causing a make or brake in the current flow, you may be able to do a simple test to find it, with the engine running, carefully wiggle all wires and terminals, if there is a problem with a connection the engine may falter.

reply:-) .. Unfortunately the car eventually stoped. Its wasnt electrical. When it finaly cut out it would not restart by key or push I tough it was something with the starter at first by rocking the car back and forward we eventually got the car started by pushing it but when it started there was a really bad knocking/ratlle comin from the bottom of the engine and was really down on power if I let the engine go under 2000rpm the engine would jus cut. My mechanic said that it was bearings in the big-end that were failing for a while end eventually did. But 4 minutes jus before the car finally stoped it reved out fully on its own then was perfect for couple of mins until it died. Id like to know your opinion before I get a new engine know that you know more about the problem kind regards and many tanks Chris o neill

You will have to drop the sump and check the bearings, but the description you have given it does sound terminal. Probably it has spun a bearing, when an engine does this, it will knock and falter as the 2 bearing 1/2's spin together then they are pounded and the engine revs hard until the engine locks up ,if this is the case, look for a second hand engine as a cheap option.

Would you know anything about engines codes I was told I may get an engine with matching codes we're are these codes and which part of the code will have to match as I'm hoping to put the engine in myself. I know I'm gettin technical but it's worth a try any advice would b appreciated. If you don't know anything about this subject not to worry I really appreciate all advice and help you guys gave me. I have no info on a 2000 Golf with a 1,4 engine, are you sure this is correct? What country are you in?

republic of ireland its the mark 4 1.4 16v engine year 2000

the data base I have to work with is for US cars and your version is not mentioned, normally the first digits of the engine no will give you the engine code,

I found it appreciate that and its awh is the engine code
