The check engine light would not go off, so I took my car to the repair shop. I paid over $500 to have a new charcoal filter installed in exhaust system. The engine seems so sluggish, i.e., no pick-up. 2000 Toyota Solara

There is no charcoal filter in the exhaust system. There is one in the fuel vapor system but it rarely has any effect on engine performance

Is it the catalytic converter that you are referring to?
