I am thinking about buying a 2000 Subaru Forester L with 159,000 miles on it. I'm wondering if this year is reliable? He is asking $1995.00 How can I tell if the catalytic converter is going or the head gaskets? Thank you.

These are very reliable cars, you can get a head check done to determine if there is any Co in the cooling system, as for the cat, normally they just fail and this is fairly evident with power loss, red hot glowing converter and often a engine check light on.
