Ticking noise from top of engine are usually from the valve lifters. If valve lifters are hydraulical, it is possible one or more could be faulty or you have lubrication problems, which could mean clogging of oil passages or low oil pressure.

If valve lifters are mechanical, valve adjustment might be required.
