My car just shuts off when I put the fan on for the heat or defrost. I can be in idle or driving. 2000 Saturn LW1. What could it be?

Have you had the battery tested and made sure the battery cable's are clean and tight?Also have you had the alternator tested?If not that's the first thing i would check.Also do you have a multimeter?
