2000 Saturn SL1 wont go in gear

So with the engine running with the transmission in 1st gear and letting out the clutch the car wont move?

The stick shift just spins around and wont go into any gear

So the inside stick shift went limp no resistance when moving it around?If so see if the shift cables are attached to the linkage on the transmission?Then look inside at the base of the shifter and see if the black cable ended shift cable came off of the bottom of the shifter?

I may have had this problem before. Is there a U-shaped clip that holds the cables on? Or something to that effect?

On the transmission side there is and they do come off sometimes. Also on the Inside of the car at the base of the shifter the black cable end breaks and comes off the shifter. They sell a repair kit for that on ebay I have fixed a couple of cars with them works great.Let me know what you find and I will help you out with it.
