transmission

No drive at all, or is is slipping as it heats up? how is the oil? dark and smelly or red? how is the level?

From what my son tells me, just quit all together, then when the car cooled down he was able to drive it home. Now when he starts it, it feels like it wants to go in to gear but does not move at all. Fluids are new had to replace due to a line breaking when I first purchased the car. Was told by his step-dad that the fluids are all up.

I feel that this may be a internal problem that you will not be able to rectify at home, best get it to a trans tech for a test and report, you can run a scan to see if there are any fault codes in the transmission, if you can, do that and report any code here.

Kind of figured that might be the response. Next question, will the transmission from a 1998 grand am fit on my 2000 grand prix ? What do I check for, i.e. numbers or model ?

There should be a I.D plate attached to the transmission, you will have to check that the model # is the same.
