2000 Nissan Maxima shifting and shift lock

I possibly could have (2) issues.

1. sometimes the shift lock is really hard to free. Press on the brakes really hard and sometime that don't work.

2. While driving, it used to have a difficult time changing from 2nd to 3rd

The shifting doesn't have anything to do with the park lock. As far as pushing the brake hard, it does nothing. As soon as the brake light comes on, the park lock solenoid should get power and release. So, first check to make sure the brake lights are coming on. If they are, then you need to check power to the lock solenoid. If it gets power, the solenoid is most likely going bad.
