Me and my fiance have this Mitsubishi, it was making a belt noise so the mechanic says it needs a new belt which it did it was pretty old and frayed. The reason why we had the belt looked at is because it would make a screeching sound when the air conditioner was on. So we change the belt brand new. The noise disappeared for about a day, and now its back it goes on and then screeches and then stop screeching. The air conditioning is still cold but it makes that noise every couple seconds. Is it a bad air compressor or does the belt need to be adjusted? What do you think?

The first thing I would do is check belt tension. It isn't uncommon for them to stretch a bit when they are new. If it is properly tightened and the noise only occurs when the AC is on, I then question if the compressor is starting to lock.
